“We had a very exciting start to our championship season last Thursday in Caribou,” said Houlton Coach Chris Rines. “We brought up 30 of our combined East Grand, Greater Houlton Christian, and Houlton High School athletes, the largest contingent we have ever fielded to the event. Several of the kids put on their best performances of the season that really set us up nicely in the team competition.”
The Shires had four athletes crowned champs in individual events. Isaiah Brown (1,600 and 3,200), Ethan Fletcher (100 and 200), Mia Hanning (200) and Rylee Warman (3,200).
Point scorers for the Lady Shires came from Warman (24), Hanning (17), Chloe Davis (1), Lexi Miller (1), and Gabby Guiod (1). For the Shire boys, points came in from Fletcher (28.5), I. Brown (28), Austin Brown (16), Tim Glatter (3), Nathan Bouchard (1.5), Jacob Forest (1), Jeremy Cook (1), Dylan Swimm (1), Adam Casillas (.5), and Benjamin Grant (.5). Cole Winslow would score three points for the GHCA boys and East Grand’s Trevor Fronczak would bring in nine for the Vikings. Fletcher and I. Brown’s performances landed them in the top 5 of all scorers for the meet going two and three respectively.
“We had a lot of kids hit their personal bests in this meet, which also means several of the modern school records have also been crushed,” Rines said.
