UMFK holds 134th commencement

FORT KENT, Maine — The University of Maine at Fort Kent graduating seniors received their degrees at the 134th commencement exercises held at UMFK on May 14, 2016. University President John N. Short presided over the ceremony that conferred 191 baccalaureate degrees and 27 associate degrees.

In addition to awarding the diplomas to 215 members of the Class of 2016, President Short conferred Dr. Robert M. Dixon with the honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters degree. Dr. Dixon addressed the graduating class.

Elizabeth Gilman of Danforth, senior class president, addressed her fellow graduates. She graduated with a bachelor of arts and sciences.

Baccalaureate degrees were awarded in arts and sciences (9); behavioral science (13); biology (8); business (20); computer applications (3); elementary education (5); english (2); environmental studies (3); French (2); nursing (115); public safety administration (9); and social science (2). Associate degrees were awarded in accounting (2); applied forest management (12); computer science (1); conservation law enforcement (2): criminal justice (6); information security (3) and general studies (1).

From Houlton: Ellen Lynn Bartlett, bachelor of science in nursing; Lauren Elizabeth Bragan, bachelor of science in business; Lucas Grant, associate of arts in criminal justice; Cole A. McLaughlin, associate of science in applied forest management; and Brandon J. Williams, associate of science in applied forest management.

From Island Falls: Christina J. Schmidt, bachelor of science in nursing.

From Merrill: Sonja R. London, bachelor of science in nursing.

From Smyrna Mills: Shellie Anita Williams, bachelor of science in nursing.
