HOULTON, Maine — Several Masses and prayer services are planned for churches and cemeteries around Maine on Memorial Day weekend.
“Memorial Day is a time to remember those who kept the faith and died in service to our country,” said Bishop Robert P. Deeley of the Diocese of Portland. “It is our duty as Americans to praise their sacrifice, to bless their memories, to pray for their eternal repose, and to thank God for the freedom they preserve for us.”
In Houlton, prayers will be offered at the old St. Mary’s Cemetery (located behind St. Mary of the Visitation Church on 112 Military Street) following the 6 p.m. Mass on Saturday, May 28, 2016. Prayers will be offered at the new St. Mary’s Cemetery (located on County Road) on Monday, May 30, at 9 a.m.
In Island Falls, Memorial Day prayers will be offered at St. Agnes Cemetery, located on Belvedere Road, on Sunday, May 29, following the 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Agnes Church on 76 Sewall Street.
