DYER BROOK, Maine — The hopes for a lengthy playoff push for the young, but talented No. 2 Southern Aroostook softball squad came to an abrupt halt Thursday as the Warriors fell, 16-10, to No. 10 Highview Christian Academy in a Class D North quarterfinal.
Highview Christian Academy of Charleston received a complete game from Kelsea McDonald, who scattered 10 runs on seven hits. McDonald helped her cause at the plate with a double, two singles and three RBIs.
Rachel Pomerleau added three singles for HCA and Cece Allard drove in three runs with a pair of singles. Megan McDonald doubled and singled and knocked in a pair of runs and Kelsi Upham had a pair of base hits.
For Southern Aroostook, freshman Kylie Vining had a spectacular day at the plate as she drove in six runs with a grand slam and a two-run homer and also had a double and a single. Marissa Boulier drove in three runs with a double and two singles.
Highview Christian improves to 9-8, while the Warriors end their season with a 10-5 record.
