HOULTON & HAYNESVILLE — Eleanor M. (Karnes) Estabrook, 89, passed away June 9, 2016 at a Belfast healthcare facility. She was born May 11, 1927 in Haynesville, the daughter of Samuel and Mildred Karnes.
Eleanor grew up and spent her formative years in Haynesville. She worked on the family farm and was educated in the local school. Eleanor went to Ricker Classical Institute until it burned and graduated from Hodgdon High School, Class of 1945.
In 1946, she married Arlo Estabrook, her life partner for over 60 years. Eleanor was active in community affairs. She was a den mother in Cub Scouts, a member of the extension, an active participant in the Grange, a Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star in Orono and a Sunday School teacher to first and second graders. Eleanor loved her family, flowers, music, traveling with her husband, small children, dogs and quiet times with her Bible.
Eleanor is survived by two sons and their wives, Timothy and Rena of Frankfort, Eric and Alice of Florida. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Arlo; four brothers, Stanley, Gilbert, Norman and Luther; three sisterss, Irene, Ruth and Muriel.
Friends called the Dunn Funeral Home 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2016 until the time of the service 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Gary Johnson officiating. A time of fellowship was held at the funeral home following the service. Interment was in the Hodgdon Cemetery.
