HOULTON, Maine — First grade students at Houlton Elementary School end each year with a Flag Day program for their friends and family.
There were approximately 125 students who participated in the program under the direction of first grade teachers: Linda Cowperthwaite, Tara Austin, Sarah Estabrook, Julia Lunn, Cindy Goodrich and Brenda Sewell.
The children wearing a variety of red, white and blue clothing and waving the American flag marched around the multi-purpose room singing “Yankee Doodle Dandy.”
The program featured speaking parts and several traditional songs including: “It’s a Grand Old Flag,” “America the Beautiful” and “God Bless America.”
