TOGUS — Theodore F. Brooks of Topsham died Saturday June 18 at the Togus Veterans Hospice with his immediate family by his side.

He was born September 30, 1928 in Island Falls, Maine, the son of Frank and Lucy (Emery) Brooks. He attended Island Falls schools and in December 1946, at age 17, enlisted in the United States Navy.PT Theodore Brooks2

On April 20, 1953 Ted married Kathleen M. Bachelder of Houlton, Maine. They remained together for 61 years until Kay’s passing in May 2014.

Ted was proud of his Naval career which included sea duty assignments aboard seven ships; U.S.S. Wright, U.S.S. Coral Sea (plank owner), U.S.S. Greenwich Bay, U.S.S. Currituck, U.S.S. Wasp, U.S.S. Forrestal and the U.S.S. John F. Kennedy (plank owner). Some land duty assignments included Fentress Field, Va., Keflavik, Iceland and Fleet Air Wing Three at Brunswick Naval Air Station where he was Leading Chief. Senior Chief Brooks, ABCS, retired in November 1969, two weeks shy of 23 years active duty service to his country.

In 1970 he went to work for Jay Brush Corporation in Brunswick which later became Grumbacher Industries. He was foreman in numerous shops within the company during his years there. He retired in the early 1990’s before the company relocated to Lisbon Falls.

Ted was predeceased by his loving wife Kay in May 2014. He is survived by his son David Brooks and his wife Lynne of Lisbon Falls; granddaughter Lisa Brooks Brown and great grandson Ethan Brown of Lisbon; grandson Jason Brooks and his wife Katie and great grandsons Nolan and Grant Brooks of Waterboro, Maine, along with many nieces and nephews. Ted was the remaining sibling with four sisters, Marie, Leona, Joyce & Geneva and three brothers, Raymond, Cecil and Reg pre-deceasing him.

The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude to the staffs of the Maine Veterans Home, C. Company in Augusta as well as the Togus Veterans Center, Patriots Place (73) & Hospice for their excellent care of Ted these past two years.

Visiting hours will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, August 26, 2016 at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Hill Road in Sabattus, ME.
