A Sole in Knead opens in Houlton

HOULTON, Maine — Lisa McNeil has opened an office in Houlton at 99 North St. for her reflexology business called A Sole In Knead, LLC. Lisa has lived in the community for 17 years and is a happily married mother of two.

McNeil enrolled in “Treat Your Feet” Reflexology School after experiencing pain, herself. Lisa graduated in December and In March, finished her 100-hour apprenticeship and received her certificate.

“I love helping people to feel good and when your feet feel good, you feel good,” McNeil said. “As a reflexology practitioner I use various techniques to apply specific pressure, stimulating reflex points that energize nerve pathways. The foot mirrors the body. The body is divided in zones running longitudinally from head to toe. Some of the techniques used to achieve results could include thumb walking, finger walking and pressure point holds. Whatever method is used, you should feel the deep sense of relaxation.”

According to McNeil, a reflexology treatment should be a pleasurable experience, leaving a person relaxed and calm or energized and rejuvenated.

“Although, sometimes you may have areas that may be tender, reflexology should never be painful,” she said. “Gentle but firm pressure is preferred. This allows the nerve pathways and congestion to release. The reflexologist stimulates the nervous system, your body facilitates balance and healing.”

Reflexologists do not practice medicine.

“Reflexologists never diagnose a disease, treat a specific condition, prescribe or adjust medication,” McNeil said. “They do not treat specific diseases, although we help eliminate problems caused by these diseases. Reflexology helps bring the body into a state of balance. Tendon reflexes or spots on the feet indicate where the body may be congested and out of balance. Reflexology activates the body’s own healing ability.”
