PATTEN and DUNSTABLE, MA — Joanne M. (Howes) Hanson, 77, died July 9, peacefully after a long illness. She was born August 19, 1938, in Patten, ME the daughter of George and Pauline (Palmer) Howes.
Joanne taught English Language Arts at the Groton-Dunstable Regional Middle School. Her love of children and well-written books made her a passionate and much-loved teacher. She was very proud of her family and took special pride in the accomplishments of her grandchildren. She loved gardening, flowers, reading cookbooks, and baking. Her apple pies were second to none. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Cecil Hanson of Dunstable, MA; her children, Karen Suvalskas and her husband, Thomas of Marlborough, MA, Terry Hanson and his wife, Lisa of Tyngsborough, MA, Kathy Ogiba and her husband, Michael of Hudson, NH, Debi Durand and her husband, Guy of Bellevue, NE, Eric Hanson and his wife, Sue from Glen Rock, PA, Elizabeth Roy and her husband, Jamie of Felton, DE; her 16 grandchildren, Daniel, Erik, Jeffrey, Adam, Jasmin, Caitlin, Austin, Jacob, Dillon, Jeremiah, Seth, John, Sage, Annika, Ryan, and Brady; her brothers, Rodney Howes of Washington, DC and Robert Howes and wife, Jean of Patten; nephew Kenyon Howes, wife Jessica; great-nephew Nolan, as well as many other nieces and nephews scattered around the country. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Pauline Howes.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 15th at the Patten Cemetery with the Rev. Ruth Foss officiating.
