LITTLETON, Maine — Two Houlton men were able to walk away from a late-evening rollover Sunday evening after spending the day at the Maine Potato Blossom Festival in Fort Fairfield.

Shawn West, 22, was driving south in a 2002 Ford Explorer on U.S. Route 1 when the vehicle left the road at about 11:30 p.m., according to Sgt. Chad Fuller of the Maine State Police Troop F barracks. The two men were on their way back to Houlton from Fort Fairfield.

The vehicle struck a telephone pole and rolled over twice before coming to rest on its roof in a ditch along Route 1. Police said West had fallen asleep while driving.

Both West and his passenger, 20-year-old Caleb Dube were able to walk away from the crash with minor injuries. They were both wearing seatbelts, police said.

Trooper Patrick Pescitelli investigated the incident and was assisted at the scene by Monticello Fire Department. No charges were filed.
