HOULTON, Maine — The Woodie Wheaton Land Trust partners are hosting the third annual Mickey Finn Children’s Day at Riverfront Park Saturday, July 30, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event will be held rain or shine, at Riverfront Park for families and children to gather to learn more about conservation, outdoor skills and join in the fun. The day is sponsored by The Woodie Wheaton Land Trust with help from Machias Savings Bank, FA Peabody Insurance, CLIC-Chiputneticook Lakes International Conservancy, the Maine Warden’s Service, Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Wheaton’s Lodge and Andy’s IGA.
“The event is part of our Conservation Education Program and our Community Outreach Initiative” stated board member, Jean Swanson.
The cost to participate is $3 per person or $10 per family and will include: interactive learning stations, games and crafts and a hot dog lunch.
Under the big top there will be several interactive stations to learn about fish, furs, trees, animals, knots, the ecosystem and the importance of clean water and forests, a science display with insects, crustaceans and arachnids and more.
Maine Guides on site to teach a fly-tying streamer clinic and casting lessons. Archery and ATV safety will be taught by safety specialists from the IFW. There will be childrens’ book table and other surprises. The first 100 children registered will receive a goodie bag.
