The remains of Hodgdon native Jewett Williams, a veteran of the Civil War, 20th Maine, have been found in Oregon.
He was the son of Jared C. Williams and Rosaline Jackins of Hodgdon. He was in several battles and, after being mustered out of the service in July of 1865, he went west to Minnesota, married there, and then went to Washington state and finally to Portland, Oregon, where he died in July of 1920.
His remains were left there unclaimed until recently. The 20th Maine Co. B. group wish to bring him back to Togus in September for a military burial. Interested descendants should phone Eugene Jackins at 532-3655.
