Obstacle challenge returns to Bigrock

MARS HILL, Maine — The Mars Hill Mountain Challenge is back for its second year.

This year’s race will take place Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016 at Bigrock Mountain.

The event is an adventure obstacle race that features the alpine terrain of Bigrock with a variety of natural and man-made obstacles over a five-kilometer course with plenty of elevation gain.

It is open to all competitors ages 13 and up, but is recommended for ages 18 and up.

The first wave of racers head out at 9 a.m., with waves continuing every 30 minutes through noon.

Go to marshillmountainchallenge.com to register. The cost is $65 per person, which includes a T-shirt and a lift ticket to Bigrock during the 2016-17 season. There is an opportunity to either sign up as a team of a minimum of four people or to race as an individual. Registration packet and bib pickup takes place Friday, Aug. 12 from 4-6 p.m. and on race day from 8-10 a.m.

The event features a beer garden, a kids corner play area featuring a bounce house, a kids’ fun run at 1 p.m. and live music. Awards will be handed out at 4:30 p.m. to the top three teams and the top individuals in the under-30, 30-39 and 40-and-older age groups for both males and females.
