HEATH, Ivory B. Jr., 87, August 1, 2016. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Sun., Aug. 21 at the Lincoln Seventh Day Adventist Church in Lincoln.
Ivory Brown Heath, Jr., “Ike,” 87, went to be with his Lord on August 1, 2016 surrounded by loving family. Ike was born August 29, 1928 to Ivory Brown, Sr. and Ruth Ingalls Heath of Sherman, Maine. Attending school in Sherman, then working his father’s farm, he was ultimately called to serve his country in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during the Korean War (61st Field Artillery, 1951-53). Following this, he returned home to marry, raise a family whom he supported through various vocations — dairy and sheep farming, wood harvesting, first by chainsaw and workhorse and, then, chainsaw and skidder, to finally mechanical harvesting, being employed by Great Northern Paper Company/Georgia Pacific of E. Millinocket at Coffeelos Camp until his retirement in 1992. He also worked briefly as a mechanic for Bean and Conquest Motors in Bangor during the 70s.
Ike loved his family, loved his wife, Janice, with whom he lived in East Millinocket in recent years, but most of all loved his Lord and Savior. He served Him faithfully as an Elder at the Lincoln Seventh-Day Adventist Church since the early 1980s. In his retirement, he loved spending time at the family farm in Sherman, now lovingly dubbed “Ivory Heights,” where he grew sundry crops, harvested his winter wood, tinkered on machinery and walked the woods and fields. He also spent time in his home in E. Millinocket gardening in his backyard, tying flies, and bird watching. His yearly visit to the coast was always a delight.
Ike is survived by his wife, Janice Wilcox Heath, his son, Stephen, and wife, Rhoda Heath, of Stacyville; daughter, Ellen, and husband, Alfred (Chip) Van Dine, Jr., of Millinocket; and daughter, Lorinda, and husband, Jeffrey Waltz, of Cornville; three step-daughters, one step-son, six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mertleen, and husband, Melvin Jones of Hartford, NB; a brother, Paul, and wife, Donna Heath, of Vassalboro; many nieces, nephews and several cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Michael; brothers, Ralph, Charles (Bill), Leonard, Bertrand and Jesse; and a sister, Avis Darling.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, August 21, at the Lincoln Seventh Day Adventist Church, Lincoln, Maine followed by committal/burial service in the Sherman Cemetery, Sherman, Maine.
