ISLAND FALLS NEWS
Joyce and Diane Curry arrived from their home in Portland to spend the week of the Summerfest activities at the Curry homestead here. They attended the Island Falls Alumni Banquet, which was held on Aug. 6 at the municipal building, and to enjoy the parade held on Aug. 7.
Gail (Webb) Davis and husband, Brian, are here from their home in South Carolina, and Gail joined a group of women who entered the walking contest on Saturday, Aug. 6, but unfortunately did not win this year.
Mr. and Mrs Frank Sharpnack and daughter, Amy, arrived here Aug. 7, and are now the proud owners of a nice camp on the east side of upper Mattawamkeag Lake. They will stay here for a couple of weeks, get used to the new cottage and have fun visiting with family and friends here, before returning to their home in Maryland.
Mrs. Sharpnack, Gilly Lynn, is the daughter of James and Madeline Hawkes and has spent many weeks here in the past, so is quite familiar with the area.
I have a nice little friendly chipmunk who has apparently decided that my area is his area, and I see him every day dashing around the corner of my house and up into the cedar tree for an easy access to the sunflower seeds I put out for the little birds. He doesn’t like the spicy seeds, so I only put out a few of the regular sunflower seeds and the little birds are happy with the spicy ones.
The pesky squirrels are not around now, as they have decided that the spicy seeds are not to their taste, and I do not leave many regular seeds so they have given it up — at least for now.
Still no deer, but I keep an eye out, just in case.
