With the fall high school sports season about to get underway, the Houlton Pioneer Times is seeking help from its coaches and managers in reporting results in a timely manner. When possible, the newspaper requests that game information be sent in as soon as possible after its completion.
Information should be submitted after each contest, and not just for home games as oftentimes, the opposing team may not send in results, or may have player’s names incorrect.
The newspaper strives for excellence in its reporting. With so many games on any given day, it is not possible for us to be at every game. Therefore, we rely on coaches to send in results so that local teams receive the coverage they deserve.
For soccer, the newspaper requests that coaches report the following information: final score; who scored goals for both teams, including a player’s first and last names, along with the time the goal was scored; who had assists for both teams; how many saves each goalie had; and how many shots each team had. If possible, brief descriptions of the goals would be helpful. And finally, any comments you may have on how your team played are always welcome.
For football, final statistics for each team are required. Individual statistics for quarterbacks and the top running back and receivers are helpful. A description of scoring drives (or key plays of the game) are also useful when putting together a story.
For golf, the team scores and individual results for both squads should be reported, along with any comments you may have on their performance.
For cross-country meets, complete results should be sent, including team scores, and individual times for runners, along with any comments you may have on the meet.
Results may be reported via telephone by calling Joseph Cyr, news/sports reporter, at 532-2282, emailed to jcyr@bangordailynews.com or by fax at 532-2403.
