Williams takes over Hawk girls soccer

HODGDON, Maine — The Hodgdon girls have a new, yet familiar, face roaming the sidelines this fall as Sarah Williams has taken over the Hawk program.

Williams takes over the program from Seth Dorr, who coached one year as the varsity girls coach. She coached the varsity boys soccer team in 2014 and currently serves as the school’s varsity softball coach.

Members of the Hawk roster include seniors Jill Gough (striker), Jessica Drew (goalie) and Taylor Desrosiers (midfield); juniors Sidney Crane (wing), Sydney Howell (defense), Kathryn Rediker (defense), Janelle Goff (defense), Shelbey Sanders (defense/midfield), Madisyn Merritt (wing), Jordyn McKissick (midfield) and Megan Russell (midfield); and freshmen Autumn Ganzel (goalie/defense), Lauren McGillicuddy (midfield), Katherene Berube (defense) and Fawn Brown (midfield).

Many of the players on the soccer team are also on the softball squad. That familiarity with the players is something coach Williams feels will help the program immensely this season.

“I feel good about this season,” the coach said. “I have a group of hard-working and determined girls who are coming off a successful season last year with coach Dorr and are ready to continue improving.”

Last season, the Hawks finished with a 9-5 record, earning a spot in the Class D playoffs with a home playoff game. Hodgdon fell to 2-0 to Schenck.

“Offensively, I think we will be a strong team,” the coach said. “As the season progresses, we hope to improve our defense. Due to graduation last year as well as a couple of players who moved to different schools, we are working on rebuilding our defensive line.”

Hodgdon opens its season Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016 hosting Van Buren.
