DYER BROOK, Maine — Jason Tarr has stepped down as RSU 50’s assistant principal/athletic director to pursue a position in southern Maine.

RSU 50 Superintendent Todd LeRoy confirmed the resignation Monday morning, stating Tarr stepped down to take a position in South Portland, to be closer to his wife’s family. LeRoy did not state what that new position was.

“We will be interviewing for the position today [Monday] and should have someone on board by the end of the week,” LeRoy said.

Tarr, a native of Oakfield and graduate from Southern Aroostook, was hired by the district in October 2015 to serve as the athletic director for both Southern Aroostook and Katahdin schools.

He previously served as the middle school principal at Houlton Southside School from 2007-11, leaving that position in December, 2011 to pursue a calling in ministry. He also became a vegetable farmer. He worked about 15 acres filled with vegetables on his family’s farm in Oakfield.

Prior to that, Tarr worked at Palermo Consolidated School near Augusta, where he spent four years. He also worked in central Maine for about 10 years and taught at Limestone and Hodgdon before becoming an administrator in Ashland.
