100 Years Ago – Sept. 6, 1916

 Cattle — A. E. Mooers’ splendid herd of Meadow Farm Jersey cattle were shipped on Saturday to Calais, where they will be on exhibition during the Calais fair.

 New teacher — Miss Grace Clark of this town has been elected teacher of music in the schools of Dexter. During the past year she has had a similar position in the Berwick schools.

 

75 Years Ago – Sept. 4, 1941

 Home — Mrs. Maud Nickerson and Miss Madeline Stephenson returned Saturday evening from Farmington, where they took a two weeks’ course in the Women’s Division Training School for Civilian Defense at Farmington Normal School.

 Accepts position — Miss Phyllis Drake, a graduate of Houlton Business College, has accepted a position as secretary with the Aroostook Confectionery Company, Bangor Street.

 

50 Years Ago – Sept. 7, 1966

 Scholarship — Miss Christine Jacques, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Jacques, has been the recipient of a $500 scholarship from the Eastern Maine General Hospital in Bangor.

 Champion — Gib Chapman, manager of the Houlton Community Golf Club, presented Miss Joan Butler, champion for the ladies and Morrison Hay, champion for the men, with trophies at their annual dinner.

 

25 Years Ago – Sept. 4, 1991

 90 years — Helen Stubbs celebrated her 90th birthday this week with a party in her honor at Gulliver Brook hosted by her children, Paula Lorella from Tompoc, Calif., Winston and Marlene Stubbs of Bangor and Tim Stubbs of Silver Ridge. Also in attendance were grandchildren, out-of-town guests and more from the area.

 Employee of the month — Tom Boulier, plant manager, congratulated Ron Wellington for being selected as Louisiana-Pacific’s employee of the month for August. Ron joined L-P in 1984 and is a member of the greenend team, responsible for operating a state-of-the-art tree-length flaking system.
