For a second year in a row, Machias Savings Bank has been named one of the “Best Banks to Work For” by American Banker Magazine.

In all, 60 banks from across the country achieved the “Best Bank” status. Machias Savings Bank ranked eighth overall in the nation. The complete “Best Banks to Work For” list is featured in the Aug. 26 issue of American Banker and is available online at www.AmericanBanker.com.

“We are truly honored to be ranked in the top 10 nationwide,” said Larry Barker, president and CEO of Machias Savings Bank. “We have a unique and thriving culture that’s refreshingly different and we’re committed to creating an employee experience that’s second to none.”

In Aroostook County, the bank has branches in Houlton, Presque Isle and Caribou.

Determining the best banks to work for is a two-step process. The first step consisted of evaluating each participating bank’s workplace policies, practices, and demographics. This result was worth approximately 25 percent of the total evaluation. The second part consisted of employee surveys aimed at assessing the experiences and attitudes of individual employees with respect to their workplace. This was worth approximately 75 percent of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top banks and the final ranking.

Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process and also analyzed the data and used their expertise to determine the final ranking.

The “Best Banks to Work For” program was initiated in 2013 as a way to recognize and honor the best banks to work for in the nation and is a project of American Banker and Best Companies Group.
