Girls soccer squads were busy over the past week with a bundle of games played. The following is a recap of games played through Monday, Sept. 5, 2016.
Southern Aroostook 4, Fort Fairfield 4 — At Fort Fairfield Friday, the Warriors battled to a double-overtime tie for the second time this season.
Kylie Vining scored unassisted to put Southern Aroostook up 1-0 with 33:33 remaining in the first half. Kayla Tisdale answered just over a minute later for Fort Fairfield off an assist from Emma Campbell tying the game 1-1.
Fort Fairfield took the lead with just 23 seconds left in the first half when Kayla Tisdale notched her second goal directly off a corner kick.
Vining scored two minutes into the second half off an assist from Kacy Daggett to tie the game again at 2-2. Ten minutes later Katie Stevens, assisted by Vining, put Southern Aroostook up 3-2. Southern Aroostook was unable to hold onto that lead as Sadie Edgecomb went on to score two goals off assists from Grace Griffith and Kayla Tisdale to put Fort Fairfield up 4-3 with just 9:17 left in regulation.
Southern Aroostook came back one more time with an unassisted goal by Vining to tie it 4-4. Both teams held one another scoreless through double overtime.
Goalie Sydney Brewer made 13 saves on 17 shots for Southern Aroostook, now 0-1-2; while Emily Everitt had 15 saves on 22 shots for Fort Fairfield 1-4-1.
East Grand 2, Shead 3 — At Eastport Friday, Holly Preston scored two goals to help lift Shead past East Grand of Danforth. Jacquelyn Cook added goal off an from Kiesha Scott assist for Shead.
Jordyn Cowger and Paige Young each had a goal for East Grand.
Van Buren 0, Hodgdon 3 — At Hodgdon, Aug. 31, Sidney Crane scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Hawks past Van Buren in their season opener. Crane opened the scoring at 31:08 in the first half on Shelby Sanders’ assist.
Hodgdon added two second-half goals, one by Maddie Merritt on Crane’s assist and an unassisted score by Jill Gough.
Katahdin 1, Southern Aroostook 1 — At Dyer Brook Aug. 30, the Cougars and Warriors battled to a stalemate after regulation and two overtime periods. Katahdin struck first as Georgia Landry converted a pass from Erin Lake to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead early in the first half.
SACS’ eighth-grader Emma Nadeau evened things up for the Warriors near the end of the first half on a crossing pass from Katelyn Slauenwhite.
Sydney Brewer made four saves on five shots for SACS, while Haley Landry had nine saves on 16 shots for Katahdin.
