SCOTT, Jean M., 89, Aug. 29, 2016. An information celebration of her life took place at the Scott family home from 2-4 p.m. on Thurs., Sept 1.. Arrangements by Dunn Funeral Home, Houlton.
HOULTON — A free, gentle, but strong-willed spirit with an unlimited capacity for inspiring and giving love left us on August 29, 2016. With many family members at her bedside, Jean Margaret (Lawrence) Scott quietly slipped away into the peace she so richly deserved. Jean was born to Harry and Kathryn (Hatfield) Lawrence on April 20, 1927 in McKenzie Corner, New Brunswick.
Growing up on a small family farm, she developed skills and gained values that served her throughout her life. Nothing, though, had prepared her, as an only child, for the large and boisterous family of the young man she would eventually marry. Outnumbered but completely undaunted, Jean soon won the hearts and minds of the nine brothers and sisters of Gerald David Scott; Jean and Gerald began their 68-year journey as a married couple on August 5, 1948.
Jean is survived by her loving husband Gerald; daughter Sharon Brown and husband Jim; son Gerald D. Scott Jr. and wife Carol; and daughter Judith Cyr and husband David. She is also survived by her three beloved granddaughters: Allison Atkins and husband Josh; Hannah Brown with Jim Gibson; and Renee Knapp and husband Halsey. Her cherished great-granddaughter Charlotte Knapp reflects the joy of life and for life that Jean brought to everyone she touched.
Jean’s family hopes that those who knew and loved Jean will join them for an informal celebration of her life at the Scott family home at 7 Elm Street, Houlton, from 2-4 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2016.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Jean’s memory may donate payable to either the Houlton United Methodist Church, the Houlton Humane Society, or a charity of one’s choice c/o Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park Street, Houlton, 04730. Online condolences and guest book: dunnfuneral.com.
