OLD TOWN, Maine — Cross country squads from Houlton High School and Greater Houlton Christian Academy journeyed to Old Town Saturday for one of the longest running races in Maine high school cross country history.
The 3.1-mile 67th Old Town Sectional Invitational featured runners from 18 schools competing in a precursor to cross-country league, regional and state meets. In fact, the Old Town course is the same location for this year’s Penobscot Valley Conference championship.
The next race for runners will be Saturday in Belfast for the massive Festival of Champions race.
Girls team scores were: 1, Orono, 68; 2, Caribou, 76; 3, MDI, 80; 4, Ellsworth, 134; 5, GHCA, 135; 6, John Bapst, 136; 7, Mattanawcook, 204; 8, Hermon, 210; 9, Old Town, 217; 10, Houlton, 237; and 11, Fort Kent, 237.

In the junior varsity race, Lauren Swimm of Houlton finished 39th at 38:52.51.
