Strong Tower Orphanage 5K Run/Walk set for Oct. 8

HOULTON, Maine — On Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, walkers and runners will have an opportunity to lace up their sneakers and toe the starting line for the third annual Strong Tower Orphanage 5K Love Run/Walk.

In 2011, God brought together Military Street Baptist Church in Houlton, First United Methodist Church of Sedalia, MO together with the Church of the Redeemer of Caracol, Haiti to form the 501(c)3 non-profit called Strong Tower Orphanage.

Strong Tower opened its first orphan home in Haiti in June of 2013 and gave family to 10 orphaned little girls. In February of this year, the organization was able to bring into the home eight more little girls. Currently, there are 18 girls between the ages of 6 and 12 who call Strong Tower home.

There is still room for two more girls and they will be able to come into care very soon.

Since 2013, the mission and its supporters have provided a small kitchen behind the orphan home, a storage building with an administration office as well as a shade garden and a chicken coop for growing vegetables and raising chickens for use at Strong Tower. The girls are growing and thriving and have become a family.

Plans for a boys’ home are in the works and the sponsors hope to break ground on that home sometime in 2017. It will be a home for 20 orphaned little boys.

Please consider participating in this event. This is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the girls of Strong Tower Orphanage. See their beautiful faces as you run and or walk along the route in Houlton.

On race day, registration is from 7:30-8:30 a.m. with the race start at 9 a.m. Immediately following the completion of the race, snacks and refreshments will be provided and runner’s awards given for five different age divisions as well as the top male and female finisher.
