The boys soccer season has now reached the halfway mark and a number of squads are in the playoff picture.
The Hodgdon boys soccer team in enjoying tremendous success this fall as the Hawks sports an impressive 8-0 record at the halfway point to the season. As of Tuesday morning, Hodgdon (40.9354 Heal Points) was ranked fourth in Class D North, while Southern Aroostook (4-3, 17.1939) is ninth; East Grand (3-4-1, 17.1259) is 10th; and Katahdin (0-8, no points) is 20th.
In Class C North, Houlton (5-2, 17.3469) is fifth behind Orono (6-1), Central (6-1), Fort Kent (5-3) and Washington Academy (6-0).
The following is a recap of games played through Monday that were reported to the newspaper.
Shead 0, Hodgdon 1 — At Hodgdon Monday, Jordyn Merritt scored the game’s only goal with 20:43 remaining in the first half off a crossing pass from Dylan Oliver.
Shead keeper Isaac Curtis made 20 saves on 36 shots and Hodgdon keeper Josh Foster made seven saves on 13 shots.
East Grand 0, Central Aroostook 10 — At Mars Hill Monday, Hunter Wardwell scored three goals to spark Central Aroostook. Caleb Harris chipped in two goals while Ben Thomas, Sam Brewer, Cameron Mosher, Colby Kingsbury and Seth Faloon each had one.
Houlton 13, Calais 1 — At Calais Saturday, the Houlton boys rebounded from a tough loss to Fort Kent two days prior with a goal-scoring explosion against Calais. Keegan Gentle started off the scoring for the Shires and finished with a hat trick.
Jake Worthley also had a hat trick to go along with four assists. Ben Grant and Patrick Howe had two goals each. Alex Wilde, Dylan Johnston, and Nick Perfitt also added goals for the Shires. Abe Lorom, Pat Howe, and Dawson Mclaughlin also had assists for Houlton.
Calais’ Chance Leighton scored on a penalty kick with three minutes remaining to prevent the shutout.
Hodgdon 3, Van Buren 0 — At Van Buren Friday, Dylan Oliver scored two goals for the Hawks, while Daden Palmer chipped in one in the shutout over Van Buren. Damien Sanders had an assist for the Hawks. All three goals came in the first half.
Southern Aroostook 1, East Grand 0 — At Danforth Thursday, Tyler Batchelder scored a late goal in the second half to give the Warriors a 1-0 victory over East Grand. Nolan Altvater had 16 saves for the 4-3 Warriors. Thomas Gilman had 21 saves for 3-3-1 East Grand.
Fort Kent 2, Houlton 0 — At Houlton Thursday, the Shires were shut out by visiting Fort Kent in a physical game. Austin Plourde scored with 32:19 left in the first half, and Camden Jandreau scored with 18:35 left in the second half.
AJ Henderson had six saves against 14 shots for the Shires and Reece Pelletier had five saves against five shots for Fort Kent.
