Theater plans radio drama

Plans are in the works for Houlton Star Bright Children’s Theatre to perform a radio drama, “A Christmas Carol,” to be broadcast on WHOU in December.

This is an opportunity for middle school students to read and record this classic play by Charles Dickens, as well as for the community to hear and enjoy it.

The drama is open to students in grades 6 through 8. An introductory meeting will be held Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 2:45 p.m. in the art room of Houlton Middle/High School, to talk about the process, look at the script and decide on a rehearsal schedule.

For more information, or for those who are interested but cannot make the meeting, contact Mary Miller at 757-7200.

The theatre has also announced that Erin Kafferlin will be directing its spring production, open to students grades 3 through 6. Auditions will be held in December, with plans to perform the play in April; more information will be available soon.

The HSBCT Board of Directors has recently welcomed a new member, Kendra Kneeland, who joined last spring, and has elected a new president, Gary Farnham, this fall. The organization is made up of volunteers, and is committed to introducing young people to all aspects of theatre, on stage, behind the scenes, and over the air.
