HOULTON, Maine — It was a very nice weekend at the Houlton Community Golf Course with many people taking advantage of the weather to get in a few more holes.
We held the Groundskeeper Revenge tournament on Saturday morning. Seven teams competed on 18 holes with pin placements in very difficult positions. After the dust settled, it was the team of Marty Bouchard, Sean Dolomont, Ray Mailman and Bob Gray on top with a total of 8 under par 64. Tied for second place at 65 were the teams of Mike Kelly, John Fairfield, Jackie White and Peter Stanley, along with the team of Drew Marino, Kara Marino, Misty Marino, Harriett Gray and Martha Fasulo.
All had a good time, but we don’t want to see these pins again ‘til next year.
Both high school teams will be going to Natanis this weekend for the team state championships so they will be out practicing hard. Good luck to them both. We have only had a couple of inquiries about the night golf tournament, so that will not happen this year, but may be back next year.
Groundwork and shaping and seeding have been completed on the fifth hole and adjacent 17th tee area. Please stay off if possible. Imagine this hole next year with all the grass grown in and mowed. It might be the prettiest hole on the course. And should play a lot easier for most golfers.
The Lakeside Restaurant wishes to announce that two more live entertainment Fridays will happen. On Oct. 14, Paul LaPointe will return to the dining room with collection 1960s-’80s sing-along songs. It is always a lively night with Paul. On Oct. 28, they will have Undertone in the house. Once again a very busy night so get your reservations in early. Call Nancy at 694-9494.
Temperatures improve as the week goes on. So come on out and enjoy the beauty of fall golf at the lake.
