Attending the committal service for Gertrude Webb this week were family and friends from the area and away. Daughter Gail Webb Davis, son Gary Webb and Andrea, great granddaughter Bethany Gould of Portland, Ed Webb, Rodney Webb and Thalia of Newport, Ann Griffin, Brian Gallagher, Patty Jordan attended from away along with former neighbors Charlotte Splan Hallett and Nancy Palmer Kennedy.

Several from the community were there and most attended a luncheon at Whittier Congregational Church following the service.

One must note the great job done painting the former Webb store on Houlton Street here. Peter and Cheryl (Sewall) Connelly have worked through the heat and cooling temps to paint this very large building. We’ve held our collective breaths as Pete has scaled ladders, hung out windows, harnessed himself to rooftops and bounced on a lift to finish the job.

Thank you for caring about the appearance of your property, Peter and Cheryl.

On Oct. 22 the Island Falls Rec Department will hold a costume Halloween dance at the Municipal Building. Grade 5 and under students ($3 per student) may attend from 6-7 p.m., and grade 6 and up ($5 per student) from 8-11 p.m.

Snacks will be provided and prizes will be awarded. Donations for snacks are welcome.

The Rec Department will also hold a Trunk or Treat on Halloween in the parking lot of the Municipal Building. Come at 6:30 p.m. and park your vehicle, cart or table with treats to hand out to the trick-or-treaters.

This is a safe and fun way to celebrate. Call 463-2263 or email ifrec@fairpoint.net for further info.

The Town of Island Falls would like to remind townspeople that all decorations and flowers must be removed from cemetery plots by Oct. 31.

Flags will remain on veteran’s graves until after Veteran’s Day, weather permitting. All remaining material will be removed and discarded on November 12.
