HODGDON — Norval “Jack” Toner 86, passed away Oct. 26, 2016 at a local hospital. He was born October 25, 1930 in Hodgdon, the son of Edward H. Sr. and Anna Mabel (Cassidy) Toner.
Jack grew up in Hodgdon and graduated from Hodgdon High School, Class of 1949. He attended technical school in Augusta for one year, then joined the United States Air Force, serving for four years in Alaska, Arizona and Duluth. Jack returned to Hodgdon and helped run the family farm for a year, then moved to Minnesota where he owned a milk distributor. He also worked for Continental Oil in the sales department and was the owner/operator of a resort on Wolf Lake, Minnesota. Jack returned to Maine in the mid 70’s and begun farming again. He decided to start driving truck in the late 70’s and drove long haul until his retirement in 2005. Jack loved to dance and listen to music. He enjoyed making ice cream, homemade fudge and kahlua. Jack was a good travel companion and was known to be a “jack” of all trades and a master of none.
Jack is survived by his children Keith Toner and his wife Joanne of Minnesota, Theresa Toner, Laurie Saunders and her husband David, Wendy Toner, Edward Toner, III and his wife Carol all of Hodgdon; 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; his sister Bernadette “Bunny” Neal of Vernon, CT; mother of his children Deanne Toner of Houlton; stepchildren Diane Neadeau, Mike and Linda Dunn, Pam Geese, Vickie Jondreau and Steve Dunn; special friend Marie Murreau of Houlton; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Shirley (Townsend), his son Jet Toner, his siblings Edward Toner, Jr., Iris Gould, Darrell Toner and infant sister Patricia Toner.
Friends called the Dunn Funeral Home, Friday, Oct. 28, 2016 6-8 p.m.. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016 at Saint Mary of the Visitation Church with Rev. David Raymond celebrant. A time of fellowship was held in the Parrish Hall immediately following the service. Interment was held 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 2016 with Military Honors in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
