100 Years Ago – Nov. 8, 1916
Employment — Marion Sincock, a recent graduate of the Houlton Business College, has been placed in the office of Donnell & Peabody as stenographer and bookkeeper.
New position — Miss Leila Bubar, who for several years has held a position as saleslady at Richards’, has resigned her position and left last week for Boston, where she will take a course in a business college.
75 Years Ago – Nov. 6, 1941
Birthday — Mrs. Fannie Lilley, of Smyrna Mills, celebrated her 81st birthday. She is one of the town’s pioneer women. The occasion was marked by a party in her honor at the home of her niece, Mrs. Lewis Leavitt. She received many beautiful gifts.
Reunion — The class of 1939 of Aroostook Central Institute, Mars Hill, held its reunion at Porter’s Lodge Friday evening, Oct. 31. Former class president, Gerald Keenan, acted as toastmaster. Plans were made to hold another reunion next summer with a larger attendance.
50 Years Ago – Nov. 9 , 1966
Picked — Only 60 students out of several hundred applicants throughout the United States were selected as student trainees at the National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tenn., this past summer. Danny R. McGary, a Ricker College student, was one of these — in fact, he was the only Maine student chosen — and he is now the recipient of a fellowship for work on his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin.
50th — Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Guy of Littleton were honored on their 50th wedding anniversary Nov. 2 with a family banquet at Al’s Dining Room in Houlton with 22 present. They were married at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church at Woodstock, N.B., with Dr. Frank Baine and the bride’s father, the Rev. R.J. Millar, officiating.
25 Years Ago – Nov. 6, 1991
Winner — Bert Callnan, of Callnan’s Market, presented Cathy Belyea with a Magnavox radio with cassette and CD player, for being the grand prize winner during their recent grand opening celebration.
Visitor — Ronald McDonald was a special visitor to Houlton recently as he spent time with elementary children from the area teaching them about fire safety.
