HOULTON — The Maine State Police Troop F barracks in Houlton responded to 245 calls for service during the weeks of Oct. 24-Nov. 7.
Monday, October 24
– Tr. Sylvia investigated a criminal mischief complaint in which rocks were thrown at a mobile home in Hodgdon. This is the second time this has happened, and there was damage done to the home. The investigation is ongoing.
Thursday, October 27
– Tr. Casavant charged a 35-year-old New York man with criminal speed and operating after suspension. The subject passed Tr. Casavant in his unmarked cruiser at 108 mph while he was northbound on I-95 in Carmel. The driver is currently working on getting his license back and making arrangements to get his vehicle back to New York.
– Sgt. Clark issued a summons to a 49-year-old Mars Hill man after he littered in a public park. Troopers have been dealing with this same man on an almost daily basis due to him drinking beer in public, urinating in public, and throwing his litter on the ground and he has been summonsed and arrested multiple times for drinking in public, violations of bail and littering.
Friday, October 28
– Tr. Bell stopped a dump truck in Hodgdon after observing the male operator who was known to be suspended. The operator was summoned for operating after suspension. Less than an hour later Tr. Bell ran the plate and registered owner of a separate vehicle and discovered that the female operator was also suspended. The female was stopped and summoned for an OAS-infraction.
Saturday, October 29
– Tr. Adams located and arrested a male for a warrant in Littleton. The male told Tr. Adams that he was on bail and that he had used meth as well as smoked marijuana two days prior which would be a violation of his bail conditions. Tr. Adams arrested the male and transported him to the Aroostook County Jail. At the jail the male took a urine test, to which he tested preliminary positive for methamphetamine, oxycodone, benzodiazepines, and marijuana. The male was also charged with violations of conditions of release as well as the warrant.
– Tr. Kilcollins arrested a 26-year-old Linneus man on a warrant after he failed to appear in court for failure to register vehicle and displaying false registration. The man was placed under arrest and taken to the Troop F barracks where he bailed and received a new court date.
– State Police responded to a crash on Pelletier Avenue in Frenchville at 3 a.m. An individual reported that a crash had occurred, and the vehicle was on its roof in a ditch. Trooper Curtin responded to the scene. The initial investigation revealed that a juvenile, male operator had been traveling north on Pelletier Avenue in Frenchville when he lost control of his vehicle and then left the roadway. The vehicle went into a ditch, and rolled over. The Dodge pickup ultimately came to a rest on its roof, on an embankment. Both the operator and passenger were able to get out of the vehicle after the crash. They were transported to Northern Maine Medical Center by Madawaska Ambulance and treated for minor injuries. Speed and alcohol were both factors in the crash. Tr. Curtin was assisted at the scene by the Madawaska Police and Fire Departments. The investigation is active and ongoing.
– At approximately 11:36 p.m. Tr. Curtin was called to assist Madawaska PD with a crash on the Cleveland Road where one person was injured and four subjects reportedly fled the scene. The crash was later determined to be in St. Agatha so Tr. Curtin completed the investigation. 23-year-old Sinclair man was located at the scene and claimed he was not driving and the operator and other fled. The 2003 Chevy truck, registered to the man, left the roadway striking a telephone pole. He suffered minor injuries in the crash. The crash investigation is ongoing. Madawaska PD and Aroostook SO assisted with the investigation.
– Tr. Kilcollins issued a criminal summons to a 34-year-old Hodgdon woman after she crashed her vehicle and left the scene without reporting the crash. Tr. Kilcollins was able to locate the woman and interviewed her about the crash. The woman claimed she swerved to avoid a deer but the evidence and tire marks and the scene do not support her claim.
– Tr. Kilcollins located and arrested a 26-year-old Linneus man that had an active arrest warrant for failing to appear in court. The man was taken to the Aroostook County Jail until he could either appear before a judge or post bail.
Sunday, October 30
– Tr. Pescitelli and Dep. Reid Clark went to an address to search for a subject who had a warrant for his arrest. Upon pulling into the driveway of the residence Tr. Pescitelli noticed people inside the residence moving quickly away from the front door. Tr. Pescitelli and Dep. Clark moved toward the back of the residence and found two people standing next to the back door. When asked why they ran out the back they said they didn’t know. Three more people came out of the house and Tr. Pescitelli identified all the people on scene. When one male gave his name, Tr. Pescitelli recognized him as having a warrant. Tr. Pescitelli told the man about his warrant and that he wasn’t free to leave. The man fled on foot behind the house where he was pursued by Tr. Pescitelli and Deputy Clark. The man was caught after a very brief foot chase and arrested for the warrant as well as charged with escape. One of the other subjects inside the house was also discovered to have warrants and was arrested as well.
Monday, October 31
– Tr. Curtin assisted the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office with a complaint in Frenchville. The sheriff’s office has been dealing with a long-standing dispute over ownership of a road in Frenchville between the town and a local citizen. On this day, the dispute escalated when the citizen feuding with the town dug up the roadway with some farm equipment and then struck someone in the head with a pipe as they were attempting to drive through the section of disputed roadway. Tr. Curtin arrested the subject and held him in custody until deputies were able to arrive and handle the complaint. The subject was ultimately charged with aggravated criminal mischief and aggravated assault. Damage to the roadway was in excess of $50,000.
Tuesday, Nov. 1
– Tr. Luce investigated a report of harassment between two neighbors in Allagash. This has been a long, ongoing issue between the two men that has resulted in several arrests and protection orders being issued. One of the men claimed his neighbor had been harassing him by shining a spotlight into his windows. Tr. Luce went to the other man’s residence and learned that the man was using a long lamp with an incandescent bulb while working on a fence between the properties. Tr. Luce closed this as unfounded.
Wednesday, Nov. 2
– Cpl. Quint stopped a vehicle for expired inspection and defective exhaust in Forkstown and found the female operator had a suspended driver’s license for medical reasons. The 54-year-old Houlton woman signed the summons and arranged to have a family member come get her vehicle.
Thursday, Nov. 3
– 50-year-old male reported that his residence in Westfield had been burglarized and the only thing disturbed/taken was his prescribed medical marijuana. He estimates that he had about 3 ounces of marijuana taken valued at about $600-$700. Investigation is ongoing.
Friday, Nov. 4
– Tr. Sucy stopped a 21-year-old woman from Westfield for speeding on Interstate 95. Tr. Sucy conducted a computer query on the woman’s driver’s license and learned that it was suspended due to a medical condition. Tr. Sucy issued the woman a criminal summons for the violation and gave her a ride to a gas station in Sherman where she waited for someone to come get her and the vehicle.
– Tr. Sylvia cited three drivers for criminal speed, two of them teens. One of the drivers was cited for driving 59 mph in 25-mph zone. He was also cited for operating without a license. The second driver was a 16-year-old male and was cited for 81 in a 50. His parents were also notified of the summons issued. Tr. Sylvia charged a third driver after pulling him over for driving 88 mph in a 55-mph zone. The 17-year-old’s mother was contacted.
Saturday, Nov. 5
– Cpl. Quint issued a 17-year-old male a criminal summons for criminal speeding. The youth stated he was hurrying to get home because he was past his curfew. The teen was driving 95 mph in a posted 55-mph zone and had previously received a summons for speeding. The teen’s mother was also contacted regarding the violation.
– Troopers Sylvia and Casavant responded to a Bridgewater residence for an altercation between a local man and his father-in-law. A female had called her father when her husband had become out of control and appeared to be under the influence of drugs. The father arrived at the residence and was ultimately assaulted by his son-in-law. The son-in-law was arrested and taken to jail.
