HOULTON — Chester A. Bailey 92, passed away Nov. 9, 2016 at a Bangor hospital while surrounded by his family. He was born September 24, 1924 in Patten, the son of Frederick and Mila (Noonan) Bailey.

Chester grew up in the Patten area and graduated early from Patten Academy, Class of 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard serving during World War II in the Aleutian Islands. Chester was discharged in 1946 and returned to Patten to work in the woods. He then went to work for Bangor & Aroostook Railroad driving bus in the transportation division, retiring in 1993. Chester enjoyed cutting wood, canoeing, fiddleheading, fishing and telling stories. He will be remembered for being a big flirt and teasing everyone. He had a great sense of humor. Chester loved his family and adored his grandchildren. He loved living in Houlton.

Chester is survived by his wife and best friend Molly (Shaw) Bailey of Houlton; his children William “Bill” Bailey and his wife Carol of Scarborough, Clare Bailey and his wife Brenda of Lakeland, FL, Craig Bailey and his wife Tammy of Milford, Nancy Morrow and her husband Dan of Auburn; eight grandchildren Christopher Bailey, Brian Bailey, Heather Bailey, Catherine Bailey, Sean Bailey, Amanda Fitzsimmons, Eric Morrow and Scott Morrow, eight great-grandchildren; “adopted” granddaughter Marlynn London, “adopted” great-grandchildren Jordan and Justin Wilson; sisters-in-law Josephine McGuire and Charlotte Fleming; nephew Larry and Glenna McGuire; special friends Paul and Kim McGillicuddy, Dave and Margaret Hill, Lori and Fred Craig, Fr. Bob Butler; many others. He was predeceased by his parents, his stepdaughter Janice A. Brown and his sister Christine Lord.

Friends may call 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016 at Saint Mary of the Visitation Church. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 11 a.m. with Rev. David Raymond celebrant. Interment with Military Honors was held at the Evergreen Cemetery. A time of fellowship was held following the interment in the Parrish Hall.
