WRIGHT, Margaret S., 100, Bennington, VT, Nov. 10, 2016. Services will be held in Maine for family and friends at a later date.

Margaret Stevens Wright, 100, of Bennington, VT died peacefully on November 10, 2016 at Fillmore Pond Senior Living Community in Bennington, VT. She was surrounded by her family.

Margaret was born in Fort Fairfield, ME and spent her “growing-up” years on the family farm. Margaret always had wonderful stories to tell about going to school or her piano lessons traveling in a horse and sleigh wrapped up in a big warm blanket. After graduating from high school in Fort Fairfield, she went to Boston and studied dramatic arts and public speaking at Leland Powers School of the Theater. Upon graduation, she returned to Fort Fairfield, ME, and got her teaching certificate. She taught school for a short time before she married Dr. Hiram D. Stevens in November, 1940. They moved to Smyrna Mills, ME where they raised their children, loved having family gatherings during the holidays and enjoyed their summers at the camp in Island Falls, ME.

She continued to be involved in helping with and directing school plays and public speaking activities at the local high school, playing the piano for the church choir and serving as a member of the local school board. She was also active in service organizations such as the Eastern Star. In 1985, Margaret married Howard Wright of Brunswick, ME. They had many wonderful years together traveling and spending the winters in Florida. Mr. Wright died in 1998. Margaret moved to Bennington, VT in 2002 to be closer to family.

Throughout her life, Margaret had a great love for music. She was an accomplished piano player, plucked away on her ukulele and learned to strum a guitar. She also loved to cook, ski, golf and play bridge with family and friends.

Margaret is survived by her three children: Priscilla Stevens Bradshaw of Bennington, VT, David Stevens of Bangor, ME and Mark Stevens of Moraga, CA. She, also, leaves six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Maine for family and friends at a later date. Contributions in memory of Margaret Stevens Wright may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
