TURNER, Ramona D., 86, Southwest Harbor & Houlton, Nov. 20, 2016. Per Ramona’s wishes, there will be no service. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Houlton. 

 

SOUTHWEST HARBOR & HOULTON — Ramona Davis Turner, 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20. 2016 at Madigan Estates in Houlton after a courageous 5 year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born January 27, 1930, in Long Island, Frenchboro, Maine, the daughter of Elmer and Ella (Tinker) Davis, the third born of 11 children.

She lived on Swan’s Island in her younger years. She moved to Southwest H​arbor with her husband, Fillmore D. Turner and her three young children and lived a very active and full life. Her passion was gardening and sewing. Her gardens were admired as were her professional sewing skills.

She spent her work career as an accountant and bookkeeper for various businesses in Southwest Harbor. In her later years she and her companion, Bob Norwood, spent many winters in Florida and especially enjoyed going to dances.

Ramona leaves behind two daughters, Karen Rochford and her husband, Jim of Houlton, Rita Pollard and her husband, Bain of Orland; a son, Larry Turner and his wife, Judy Taylor of Seal Cove; five grandsons, James Rochford of Largo, FL, Justin Cole of Portland, Jonathan Cole of Orland, Anthony and Dale Pollard of Orland; a great- grandson, James “Jimi” Rochford of Largo, FL; three sisters, Margaret Parkhurst of MA, Joan Sholty of Peru, IN and Maureen Meyer of Portland; a brother, Robert Davis of Southwest Harbor; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Fillmore Turner; her beloved grandson, Jason Turner Rochford; sisters, Freida Smith, Janet Ripley, Arlene Watson, Dorothy Colbeth, Juanita Twigg; a brother, Raymond Davis and her companion, Robert Norwood.

The family would like to thank Madigan Estates for the wonderful care she received. Also a special thanks to Dr. Abouleish and Dr. Karl Woods. She was blessed to have such giving, caring people looking after her.

Per Ramona’s wishes, there will be no services at this time. There will be a celebration of her life in June that will be announced at a later date.
