BANGOR, Maine — Congressman Bruce Poliquin announced Dec. 5, 2016 that he has nominated 18 students from Maine’s 2nd District to attend one of our nation’s prestigious military service academies next year.
Among those nominated was Connor Grant of Houlton. Grant, the son of Fred and Renee Grant, was nominated for the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Grant received one of 60 scholarships from the Air Force Academy last year in their Falcon Foundation Scholars program.
“I am honored to nominate these dedicated Mainers for consideration to be admitted to one of our nation’s prestigious military service academies,” said Rep. Poliquin. “These young men and women are truly among the best and brightest. I wish all these nominees great success and hope they will continue to work hard serving our communities and great nation.”
Rep. Poliquin’s nominations were informed by the recommendations of his distinguished Service Academy Nomination Advisory Panel, which personally interviewed student applicants last month in Bangor. That board included military, community and educational leaders and had nearly 200 years of combined service in the United States Army, Air Force, Marines and Navy.
To be considered for appointment to a service academy, applicants must be nominated by a member of Congress or other authorized nominating source.
