HODGDON, Maine —Maurice Oliver, 92, passed away December 21, 2016. He was born November 15, 1924 in Cary Plantation, the son of Merle and Hazel (Putnam) Oliver.
Maurice grew up in Cary and Hodgdon, where he attended local schools. Maurice went to work cutting wood and farming at an early age and continued to work hard his whole life. He loved to hunt deer and, according to him, he always got the big one. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the Pacific during WWII in the Philippines. He was on a troop ship steaming towards Japan when they surrendered (they knew it was coming).
He is survived by his brother, Dana Oliver of Caribou; an adopted son, Roger Wilson of Hodgdon and his friend, Barb as well as Leigh Putnam and several cousins. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, Harold and Floyd and three sisters, Ruth, Dorothy and Marjorie.
The family would like to thank Steve and Reggie for the loving care they gave Maurice and Madigan nursing staff for his final three weeks of care.
Graveside services will be announced in the spring. For an online memory book and to leave condolences please visit www.bowersfuneral.com.
