AUBURN — Marjorie “Marni” Pulkkinen Carter, 83, a resident of Schooner Estates, formerly of Livermore, died Tuesday, December 27 at Hospice House of Androscoggin in Auburn. She was born January 21, 1933, in Lewiston, the daughter of Arve Pulkkinen and Evelyn (Clough) Pulkkinen. In her childhood years, Marni grew up in Livermore and her family later moved to Hamden and then to Island Falls. Marni was a 1951 graduate of Island Falls High School. She married Harold Gerow, Jr. and they made their home and raised their two daughters, Peggy and Carmen, in Island Falls. Harold drowned in May of 1958, leaving Marni widowed early in their marriage.

Following his death, Marni went to Husson College in Bangor, earning her Associates degree. On August 6, 1960, in Bangor, she married her husband of 52 years, Harry Carter. They moved to Moravia, NY, where Harry was a teacher and Marni worked in accounting. Marni and Harry lived in NY for a number of years, where their daughter Susan was born. They moved to Scituate, Massachusetts, in 1968, where they lived for 30 years. Marni worked in the Scituate and Cohasset School System. They went to Spain for a few years for overseas teaching and did much traveling while they were there. After their retirement they moved to Livermore and they wintered in Florida. Harry later died in 2013. Marni later moved to Schooner Estates in Auburn.

She is survived by her daugthers, Peggy Ann Gerow, Carmen Gerow Simmons both of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Susan Carter Dunham of Brunswick; grandchildren, Joshua Weldon, and Thomas, Hayley and Mitchell Dunham; her brothers, Richard Pulkkinen and his wife Barbara of Millinocket, Walter Pulkkinen and his wife Joanne of New Braunfels, Texas; and Danny Pulkkinen and his wife Pamela of Naples; her sisters, Elaine Meiser of Parkton, Maryland, and Johanna Pulkkinen of Portland, Maine; her goddaughter, Ingrid Meiser Carr; and many nieces and nephews.
