Dr. Ronald Blum
PATTEN — Dr. Ronald Blum of Patten was elected president of the New England College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (NECOEM) at their annual meeting, held in December in Newton, Mass.
He will serve a two-year term.
Blum is the medical director of Twin Rivers Paper Company in Madawaska, Mt. Heights Health Care Facility in Patten and Tate & Lyle of Houlton. He also consults in a variety of other occupational medicine settings, including workers compensation, Social Security Disability, and independent medical examinations from his office in Patten.
He served as medical director for Great Northern Paper Company from 1978 until its closure in 2013.
Blum has served on the NECOEM board of directors since 2002, and was an officer of the Work Fitness and Disability section of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM). He has lectured extensively throughout the country and most recently developed and delivered mandated training to prepare examiners of commercial drivers to certify for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration program.
He is a fellow of ACOEM.
He also maintains an active family medicine practice which he started in Island Falls in 1978. Currently, the practice is with the Health Access Network in Medway.
Blum is also a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and serves as one of two Maine delegates to that professional organization.
NECOEM is the New England regional component of ACOEM, and strives to improve the health and safety of workers, workplaces and environments by education, encouraging research, championing high quality occupational medicine practice, and working to advance the field of occupational and environmental medicine.
