Two local businesses in the Skyway Plaza were evacuated Monday when a propane gas leak was discovered on the roof, according to Caribou Fire Chief Roy Woods.     Employees at the Maine Department of Health and Human Services and staff and students at Pierre’s School of Cosmetology were told to leave the buildings after a strong small of propane was detected, Woods said.
    No injuries were reported.
A half-inch propane fuel line had broken on the roof that leads to the heating system. The fire department responded to the call at about 7:30 a.m. and remained on the scene for about 90 minutes.  Mechanical Services Inc. repaired the pipe, according to Woods.
About 110 employees work out of the DHHS building in Caribou, according to Wayne Morrow, DHHS business services manager. At Pierre’s, there are two staff members and 19 students, according to school officials. Both businesses reopened for business on Tuesday morning, according to officials from both establishments.
