“Come Together” is the theme for this year’s spring conference for the northern region’s high schools’ National Honor Societies to be held on Thursday, April 10, at Fort Kent Community High School. Nearly 60 students are expected to attend the gathering, according to Jocelyn Saucier, the NSH advisor at the Fort Kent school.
Based on the Beatles’ song “Come Together,” the convention will include various activities based on several of the Fab Four’s tunes. It’s one of three times that NHS groups from the northern region get together for leadership and team-building training and some socialization.
“We’re kind of remote,” said Saucier. “It’s a way for the students to get together to share activities and service projects.”
Other conferences are held in the fall and at the state level. This year, the fall gathering was in Van Buren, while the state assembly was in Bangor last month.
Thursday’s conference will begin at 3:30 p.m. with registration and refreshments. Fort Kent NHS President Renee Daigle will address the conference delegates and Timothy Doak, the high school principal, will offer words of welcome.
A business meeting and election of officers also will be part of the afternoon’s work. The “Come Together” activities will then be held.
After a supper, the election results will be announced and the new officers will be installed.
