Road race
The annual S.W. Collins Company’s 5-km and kids’ fun run road race will be held on Sunday, June 22 beginning the yard of the S.W. Collins Company in Caribou. There will also be an open division for walkers. The kids’ fun run will take place in the yard, and will consist of five divisions. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The kids’ fun run begins at 8:30, the walkers at 9:30 and the adult runners at 9:45.     The registration fee for the 5-km is a donation of $6 or greater to the Caribou Athletics Department. Winners in the open division will receive a plaque. Division winners will receive a medal. All entrants will receive a t-shirt for participating. There will also be a drawing for a pair of running shoes, compliments of Sleepers.

    As part of Caribou’s sesquicentennial celebrations in 2009, The Aroostook Republican will run photographs and stories about the history of the city. Biking events
    A Presque Isle time trial (Maine TT #8) will take place on Saturday, July 19 beginning at 1 p.m. on the Parsons Road. The 14-mile road race/ride is part of the Maine Time Trial series. The registration fee is $20 or $15 is preregistered by emailing info@melsmojo.com or calling Melanie at 760-9500.
    The Spudcycle Classic will take place on Sunday, July 20 as part of the Potato Blossom Festival events. Registration opens at the Fort Fairfield Recreation Department at 8:30 a.m. with the kids’ event at 9 a.m. and the adult ride at 10 a.m. The route is 26-miles. For more information call 760-9500.
MWSC announcements
    Mojo bike maintenance clinic. The clinic will take place today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Mojo’s in Presque Isle. The fee is $5. To reserve a place, call 760-9500.
    St. John River Canoe and Kayak Race. The race will take place on Saturday, June 21. For more information about the race in Fort Kent, visit www.fortkentchamber.com.
    Maliseet 4-miler. The race will take place on Saturday, June 21 in Houlton beginning at 9 a.m. For more information, contact Larry Tonzi at 532-7548.
    Acadian Festival Bed Race. The race will take place on Main Street in Madawaska on Friday, June 28 beginning at 6 p.m. Teams consisting of five competitors will push beds while the crowds cheer. The Four Seasons Trail Association is issuing a challenge to all area ski/sport clubs to try to beat the veteran bed racing team.     Top O’Maine Mountain Bike Race. The race will take place in Madawaska on Saturday, June 28 beginning at 9 a.m. There is a 7-km and 28-km competition. Register at the FSTA Lodge on Spring Street. For more information, contact the Madawaska Recreation Department at 728-3604.    
    Several group rides will be held weekly by Mojo’s and the Nordic Heritage Center. Helmets are required. Mondays: women’s no drop road ride for all abilities beginning at 5:30 p.m. from Mojo’s. Mondays: moderate to fast-paced mountain bike ride beginning at 6 p.m. at the Nordic Heritage Center. Tuesdays: all abilities no drop mountain bike ride beginning at 6 p.m. at the Nordic Heritage Center. Wednesdays: moderate to fast-paced mountain bike ride beginning at 6 p.m. at the Nordic Heritage Center. Saturdays: all abilities no drop road ride beginning at 8 a.m. from Mojo’s.
    Aroostook River paddle nights will be held weekly beginning at the Caribou Dam boat landing on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.
