CARIBOU – Hiking, fishing, exploring fire towers, learning map and compass skills and talking with two outdoor professionals all in one week.

Martin, of the Maine Forest Service, joined the group at St. Francis, and, during the hike up Deboullie Mountain, spoke to the students about the history of the Deboullie Fire Tower and how forest fires are reported.
Cobb, the northeast representative of the Forest Fire Lookout Association, joined the group at No.9 Mountain, Howe Brook Mountain and Oak Hill.
Cobb spoke about the history of fire towers, the different styles and offered a wealth of information with respect to this era in Maine history.
Participants also hiked Haystack Mountain and Three Brooks Mountain and had the opportunity to swim and fish.
Any youths entering grades six to nine who wish to participate in one of the remaining six weeks of the program should contact the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department at 493-4224.

Caribou Community Pool
The pool holds open swim Monday to Friday from 2 to 4 p.m., Monday to Thursday 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday 1 to 4 p.m.
