Sirois’: Small with personality

“We want to become your local neighborhood grocery,” stated Brenda Sirois, who with her husband Mark, own Sirois’ Market on 277 Sweden Street. “If our customers don’t find what they need, we want them to let us know,” she added. “We don’t want to just be a place where people stop in to grab a gallon of milk, never taking the time to see what else we offer. Customer service is very important to us, satisfied, happy customers are our goal.”

Now featuring locally grown fresh new potatoes, sweet peas, broccoli and cauliflower, the market, under the current new ownership for the past two and one-half years, staffed by four full-time and three part-time employees, is keyed toward working with local farmers and gardeners, even selling small bundles of firewood, packaged and delivered by a local citizen.
“We’re trying to make this small market a little more personable.  We now have a new wine center, even a small craft corner, offering country, folk-art gift ideas, featuring local artists. In the spring we offer seedlings from local gardeners, in fall we have pumpkins and cornstalks and Christmas trees in the winter for sale … all local products,” said Sirois.
Another new feature at Sirois’ is their bakery. This new department offers fresh breads, pastries and pies baked on site. “It’s a lot of work, but it’s a lot of fun,” commented Sirois.
Sirois’ claims to have the freshest meat in town. With an on-site butcher, the market offers fresh- sliced deli meats and cut-to-order steaks and roasts. “We also have packages of meat for those looking to purchase just small amounts, we’re trying to take care of those who are shopping for just one,” stated Sirois. “We even sell single ice-creams,” she added.
Besides having hamburger at the everyday price of $2.29 per pound, Sirois’ has barbeque specials, with special marinated steaks, kabobs and even kabobs for kids with hotdogs.
The market receives meat deliveries twice weekly and every month or so offer truckload sales, providing a chance for shoppers to purchase in bulk at a lesser price.
Another highlight, meat boxes, are available every day by order. Customers fill out a form stating what mix they desire and it’s cut, wrapped and guaranteed fresh. None of the meat products sold at the market have been previously frozen.
    Sirois’s Market, 493-3956, is open Monday-Saturday from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
