Middle School’s September Students of the Month

 CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou Middle School teachers recently named their choices for the September Student of the Month recognition.

“Kelsey Kiehn is a very conscientious student,” stated fifth-grade “Brainiacs” team teachers Mrs. Levasseur and Mrs. Ouellette, “ the responsibility she assumes at school is evident in the quality of her work.”
Recently chosen by her class to be a member of the Student Organization, the fifth-grader is also involved in the gifted and talented program, Caribou Middle School Band and the chorus.
Her teachers also remarked, “Most importantly, Kelsey is a kind and considerate person. Congratulations.”

Irene Thibodeau, a member of the fifth-grade “Sur-five-ors” team, was selected by her teachers, Mr. Barnes, Mrs. Hebert and Mrs. Barnes. “ Irene is a well-rounded, outstanding student, active in band and chorus, who is friendly, kind and courteous to adults and a good friend to her peers,” said her teachers.  “Her positive attitude and good work habits have made the start of her fifth-grade year successful,” they added, “ Irene is a pleasure to have in class.”

Nate Wyman, a sixth grader, is a member of the “Six-ceeders” team. His teachers, Mrs. Bouchard, Mr. Pelletier and Mrs. Dionne stated, “ Nate is a very conscientious student, who sets high academic standards for himself. He is always willing to help his classmates and also his teachers when called upon. Nate is very respectful toward his peers and teachers; all of his teachers agree he is a pleasure to have in class.”
The team teachers also said of Wyman, “Nate also participates on the school’s cross-country team and demonstrates the qualities of an outstanding role model and leader.”

Kristin Macek has been selected as September Student of the Month from the sixth-grade “Wow” team, by her teachers, Mrs. Holmes and Ms. Duncan. “Kristin is outstanding in every facet and is a ray of sunshine in our classes,” said her instructors. “She is passionate about reading and always has a couple of books going at the same time, along with reading, Kristin does outstanding in all her academics and achieves Highest Honors every quarter,” they said.
Extra-curricular activities for Kristin include, strings, band, cross-county and the gifted and talented program.  “ Other staff and students comment on her kindness and words of encouragement to other,” her teacher remarked,” we thoroughly enjoy our days with Kristin in our class.

Chaya Karunasiri has been named by her seventh-grade-teachers on the “SWAT” team, as their Student of the Month for September. Team-teachers, Ms. Richardson, Mrs. Curtis and Mr. Perreault, said, “ The SWAT team is pleased to name Chaya of our student of the month. She is academically outstanding and her schoolwork reflects both her strong abilities and her consistent effort. Chaya is unfailingly polite and kind to students and teacher.”
The CMS teachers also noted that, “ In addition to her top-notch academic performance, Chaya also contributes to the Caribou Middle School as manager of the cross-country team and is a member of the chorus.

Courtney Sheldon, a member of the seventh-grade “Star” team was selected as student of the month for September by her teachers Mrs. Rhinebolt and Mr. Thompson. “ Courtney is a very cooperative students who reaches out to her many friends and classmates,” said her teachers. “She is always willing to offer a helping hand to her teachers and to her fellow classmates. She participates in several activities around the school and she willingly accepts her responsibilities and commitments to each of them,” they added.
Courtney’s teachers also stated,” She is starting out the school year as a homeroom student representative for her class and is participating in school chorus. Courtney is also a past members of the CMS show choir, and participated in the show choir state championship in 2008. Among other things Courtney enjoys ELA and math, two of her favorite academic areas at school.”
One of Courtney’s greatest enjoyments is to be with her family and doing family activities. A favorite time in her life is when she attends church with her family; she is a member of the Solid Rock Worship Centers Preteen Youth group. With her busy schedule at school and her many church activities, Courtney still finds time to be an active participant in Girl Scout Troop 16.
“When Courtney is asked to tell about a favorite memory, she tells about her trip to New York with her family and her Girl Scout trip to  Washington D.C., celebrating the 95th year of Girl Scouts.,” said her teachers.
Mrs. Rhinebolt and Mr. Thompson also said, “If you see Courtney around, you will recognize her by the happy, friendly smile she will have on her face as she walks the halls of Caribou Middle School.”
Meredith Sleeper has been selected as the grade-eight student of the month by teachers Mrs. Dow, Mrs. Sleeper, Mr. Barnes, Mr. fantasia and Mrs. Boma.

Described by her teachers as, “An outstanding student, who is very conscientious about her work and always willing to help in any way she can.” Meredith was also said to be an asset to the Caribou Middle School student population in many ways. She is a member of the soccer team and both the Nordic and alpine ski teams.
Her teachers also noted, “Meredith was chosen as a member of the grade-eight leadership team and serves her homeroom as a representative to the CMS Student Organization and she also actively participates in the arts.”
At CMS Meredith is a member of the band, chorus and the show choir. In addition to her many school activities, she has been dancing at the Maine Dance Academy for 11 years, where she currently dances with the Mini Troupe and serves as a junior instructor for the Petite Troupe.

Dustin MacDougal has been selected as the September Student of the Month by eighth-grade teachers Mrs. Dow, Mrs. Sleeper, Mr. Barnes, Mr. Fantasia and Mrs. Boma.
“Dustin has shown tremendous strides in both his educational achievement as well as his attitude and behavior in school,” stated the CMS teachers. His teachers routinely have commented on how Dustin is a pleasure to have in class. Dustin participates regularly, is conscientious about his homework completion, demonstrates effective leadership qualities and routinely sports a smile. The eighth-grader plans on participating in both basketball and wrestling during the school year.
