Winter hours
The Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center is now on winter hours. Walking is available Monday through Friday from 6 a.m.-9 p.m. and Saturday from 1-4 p.m. Fourteen and a half laps equals one mile. The gymnasium is available during regular business hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-9 p.m. and Saturdays from 1-4 p.m. However, regularly-scheduled programs are under way during certain hours, so please call ahead of time to inquire about availability. The game room is open for seniors and/or supervisors and clients from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and for school-age students from 2:30-8 p.m. except during early-release days, some holidays and vacation weeks, when it will be available beginning at 1 p.m.
Saturday hours are 1-4 p.m. Students in grades 7 and older are allowed in the game room after 6 p.m. Also, students in grade 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Volleyball for adults
The recreation department will offer an adult volleyball league Thursdays from 7-9 p.m. beginning Nov. 6. Participants must be out of high school and the league will see new teams formed each week from those in attendance.
30-and-over basketball held Tuesdays and Sundays
Men’s 30-and-over basketball is under way and will meet Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m.-noon at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center. There is a $3 per player fee for the Sunday session.
Living Well course
The recreation department and the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging will offer a program entitled “Living Well.” The course, for adults ages 60 and older living with a chronic health condition, meets at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-7:30 p.m. beginning Nov. 4.
There is a $1 per class fee and pre-registration is required. For more information, or to register, contact the recreation department at 493-4224.
Volunteers sought for Halloween Party
The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department is currently seeking volunteers to assist with the annual Halloween Party slated for Friday, Oct. 31. Individuals, businesses and organizations interested in providing a game or activity during this two-hour event should contact the recreation office at 493-4224.
