A former graduate of Fort Fairfield High School is now enforcing laws in Florida, following his recent graduation from police training courses earlier this month. Richard Taylor was sworn into the Florida Highway Patrol on Dec. 18. A member of the 116th Basic Recruit Class in Havana, Taylor served as 4th squad leader and class president.
Taylor looks forward to assuming his duties as a law enforcement officer. As a sworn state trooper, his first assignment will be Martin County, Troop K, on the Florida Turnpike.
He was one of a select few to be accepted for the latest round of training. Taylor was one of 52 who were selected from 3,500 applicants to join in the 116th Basic Recruit Class. For 27 weeks, participants underwent vigorous and intense training – training each trooper had to successfully complete to stay in the academy.
Taylor resides in Florida with his fiancee, Bernadette Scanlin, and her two children, Taylor and Lindsay. Taylor is the son of Faye and Steve Hansen, of Washburn. Scanlin, formerly of Easton, is the daughter of Susan and Harry Commons, of Fruitland Park, Fla., formerly of Westfield.
