Caribou Chief expresses appreciation

To the editor:
I want to publicly express my appreciation to Senators Collins and Snowe and Congressman Michaud and Congresswoman Pingree for their support for the expanded States’ Children’s Health Insurance Program. Thanks to their support, four million additional at-risk children will receive needed health care, dental care and treatment for mental, emotional and behavioral challenges.     This is important for all of us, but especially important to those of us in law enforcement. Because we know from personal experience, in addition to the data, that children who suffered from untreated emotional and behavioral problems are more likely to become involved in crime. That’s a huge personal and financial cost to our communities, our state and this nation.
Early treatment is the best prevention. Thanks to our congressional delegation that is now a viable option for thousands of additional kids in Maine and millions of kids across our country.
Thank you Senator Collins, Senator Snowe, Congressman Michaud and Congresswoman Pingree.
