• H.O. Spencer, the jeweler, has taken the agency for the Ford touring car and also the Overland automobile.
• Misses Bertha Powers and Eva Dahlstrom, who have been spending time in Boston and New York have returned home.
• Wednesday morning saw the thermometer register 44 below zero, two degrees colder than any other morning this winter.
• Fred Doyle, one time principal of the Houlton High School and a resident of Caribou, visited in Houlton recently.
• Miss Eva M. Gagnon and Mr. Fred J. Dionne two of Caribou’s justly popular young people, were united in marriage at a quiet ceremony at the church of the Holy Rosary with Rev. Fr. H.J. McGill.
• Members of the Eastern Star Lodge were recently entertained following a regular meeting by a graph-o-phone program presented by W.L. Collins and also a piano solo by Mrs. J.C. Briggs.
• Hudson Richardson, of Limestone, had a narrow escape from serious and possible fatal injuries when he was stricken with a heart attack near the Bangor and Aroostook crossing on Broadway. Mr. Richardson and his brother Winston, were hauling wood from Limestone to Caribou with two teams; Winston was in the lead. When the attack overcame Mr. Richardson, he pitched forward between the sled and the horses. His brother, unaware of any trouble proceeded to tow. Children sliding stopped the team. Mr. Richardson received cuts and bruises about his face and was unconscious for several hours.
• Mrs. Elna Jans Anderson, died at her home on the East Road in New Sweden at the of 93 years and 15 days. At the time of her death, Mrs. Anderson was the oldest inhabitant of New Sweden. She was born Jan.6, 1841 in Skone, Sweden, traveling to this country and settling in New Sweden with her husband in 1882. She had been a widow for 30 years.
• Five seniors at Caribou High School became the newest members of the National Honor Society. They are: Elmer Drake, Chester Erickson, Dorothy Learnard, Ella Mae Russell and Mildred Thibodeau.
• Miss Vivian Edgecomb of Limestone left for Portland where she is going to train for a nurse at the Maine General Hospital.
• The report is that the twin boys of Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Sodergren of Stockholm have purchased the Peter Carlstrom farm.
• Miss Beatrice Johndro was crowned Queen of Limestone’s sixth annual winter carnival.
• Miss Rae Harmon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Harmon and Miss Mary Lou Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Brown, are home from Boston University after mid-year exams, for a few days.
• Miss Greta Anderson of New Sweden left by bus for Lewiston for a brief visit before going to Massachusetts where she will board a plane to Texas, for a six-week refresher training course at an American Airline school. Miss Anderson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Anderson and is a graduate of Caribou High School.
• Peter Belyea, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. George Belyea of Caribou, has been promoted to Machinist Mate Third Class. He is aboard the USS Miller, DD535 at Newport, Rhode Island. The ship will leave for Cuba where the crew will spend the next six weeks.
• Caribou police this week were wrestling with cases involving bogus checks, would-be thieves and a possible attempt at safe-cracking.
• The Milton Carter cottage at Cross Lake was destroyed in an early morning fire causing several injuries to two men, Harold Buchanan and Raymond Dow. The fire reportedly started when flames suddenly burst from the fireplace after it had been fed with what the men believed to be kerosene.
• Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hemberg of New Sweden, attended the bowling sweepstakes in Presque Isle where Mr. Hemberg placed second.
• A federal bankruptcy court approved a 5.4 million deal giving control of the American Kitchen Foods, Inc.’s assets in Maine to J.R. Simplot of Boise, Idaho.
• Pvt. Bernard Stubbs, Jr., who recently completed basic training was home over the holidays, visiting his parents Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Stubbs of Caribou.
• Mr. and Mrs. Steven Ellwood of St. Frances called on Peter and Charlene Espling in New Sweden recently.
• Top boys basketball foul shooters for grades 5-6 at the Woodland Consolidated School are Joey Pinette, second place; Dean Thibodeau, first; and Vaughnn Pinette, third place.
• Capturing top honors for grades 5-6 girls in the basketball foul shooting contest at Woodland Consolidated School are: Heather Gagnon, second place; Lori Knight, first place and Aaron Anderson, third place.
• Vying for the Little Miss Caribou crown are: Trista Burlock, Tami Guerrette, Taunja Richards, Jessica Thompson, Susie Albert, Shannon Francisco, Penny Parker, Kristi Martin, Danielle Lombard, Jennifer Veteto and Dana Jo Doody.
