Golf team meeting
A meet the coach/sign-up meeting for students in grades 9-12 interested in playing on the Caribou High School golf team will be held this afternoon. The meeting will be in the high school cafeteria from 3:30-4 p.m. Several Patriots earn post-season honors
The American Legion Zone 1 all-star teams were recently announced, with Caribou’s Pat Thibodeau of the Presque Isle Patriots named to the first team as an outfielder.
Ted Walker of Caribou received honorable mention, as did Patriot teammates Hunter Caron, Logan McLaughlin, Mitchell Folsom, Dan Brewer, Wilder York and Manny Martinez.
PIHS Invitational slated for Aug. 13 and 15
The 17th annual PIHS Invitational Soccer Tournament will be held Thursday, Aug. 13 and Saturday, Aug. 15 at the Johnson Athletic Complex.
Teams participating in this year’s event are Fort Kent, Ashland, Caribou, Madawaska, Houlton, Van Buren and Presque Isle. Round-robin games begin Thursday, Aug. 13 at 3 p.m. and run until 6:55 p.m. that day. The Saturday, Aug. 15 round-robin schedule is from 8:30 a.m. to 11:25 a.m. The top two girls teams will play in the championship beginning at 11:35 a.m. The top two boys teams square off at 12:15 p.m.
Third annual CCA golf tourney set Aug. 29
Cornerstone Christian Academy will host its third annual CCA Golf Classic Saturday, Aug. 29 at Caribou Country Club.
The event is a three-person scramble with a minimum team handicap of 30. The tourney will get under way with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The fee to register is $120 and pre-registration is encouraged.

Volunteers needed for annual bike tour
Aroostook County residents are being given an opportunity to volunteer a few hours of their time for an annual bicycling event scheduled for this Sunday that will benefit the Edgar J. Paradis Cancer Fund.
The 100-mile Tour de la Vallee offers a variety of rest areas which are in need of several volunteers per location. At each location, volunteers will pass out drinks and snacks to incoming bicyclists in need of a quick recharge before hitting the road.
Other volunteer opportunities include assisting on the morning of the race with registration at Northern Maine Medical Center and operating SAG vehicles which maintain pace with the riders and offer assistance with bicycle mechanical problems and cyclists suffering injuries or illness.

Football program organizing parade float

Golf tournament scheduled in Limestone
The Limestone Project Graduation Class of 2010 will hold a two-person scramble golf tournament at Limestone Country Club Aug. 23.
Registration is from 8-8:30 a.m. and a shot gun start is at 9 a.m. The entry fee is $60 per team, which includes one mulligan and one length of string. Cart availability is limited. Contact 325-7277 for more information.
