Some great games were played throughout both days, with Griffeth Ford going undefeated until the initial championship game, losing to Maine Merchants, 12-11. Maine Merchants had fought back by going through the loser’s bracket all day Aug. 2 to face Griffeth Ford again in the “if necessary” game, when Griffeth Ford won the title with a 17-6 victory.
In the first inning, Griffeth Ford jumped out on top with Vic Coriniti and Seth McCrossin each reaching base in front of Clinton St.Peter, who picked up two RBIs. Philip St. Peter and Cameron Anderson each reached base for Dan Umphrey, who drove them in. Matt Bouchard singled to drive in Umphrey for the sixth run of the inning.
Maine Merchants scored two runs in the bottom of the first to start a comeback, but Griffeth Ford would not let them come closer because in the fourth inning, they scored six more.
In that frame, Bouchard reached on a single followed by a Brad Holabird single. Stephen St.Peter and McCrossin then picked up back-to-back singles for an RBI each. Jason House reached base before Jason Thompson hit a three-run home run to put the game out of reach.
Ford then scored four more runs before the game ended on the mercy rule after five innings.
Th final regular season standings were: Fort Kent (17-1), Maine Merchants (14-4), Griffeth Ford (14-4), Buck Construction (13-5), T.W. Willard (9-9), Tobique (8-10), SOS Storage/Caldwell’s (6-12), CPT (4-14), Job Corps (3-15), Gagnon’s Auto (1-17).
